About The Virginia Sheriff

The first American Sheriff was a Virginia Sheriff, beginning a continuing tradition when the Virginia House of Burgesses appointed the first eight Sheriffs in the first eight Counties of the New World in 1634.

Join in the celebration of the beginning of American law enforcement and in honoring 375 years of steadfast service to the Citizens of the Commonwealth by Sheriffs and their Deputies.

The 375th anniversary custom badge came into being when badge designer and Virginia Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Martin was contacted by Sheriff Mike Wade of Henrico County. Sheriff Wade wanted to create a lasting tribute to past generations of Virginia Sheriffs and Deputies and he believed a commemorative badge would be the perfect way to achieve his goal.

The badge would require just the right combination of historical elements in its design. State of the art “Made in the USA” production methods and the finest materials were necessary to satisfy Wade’s quest for his contribution to history and Martin’s drive for the best possible results.

Sheriff Wade’s idea, Tony Martin’s expertise in badge design, and Martin’s son Chris’ knowledge of graphic design came together to create the most memorable badge in the history of the American Sheriff.

The 375th Anniversary Custom Badge Program is available now and will inspire an increased level of honor, duty, and pride for Virginia's Sheriffs and Deputies and an increased awareness and appreciation by the citizens of your jurisdiction.
